Our story began during a holiday in Belgium. Els, who has lived in the USA for over 30 years, met Serge in the historic heart of Antwerp.

This chance meeting sparked a mission to bridge their two homes through the art of fine chocolate—merging Belgian soul with American ambition.

With Els’s background as a Bio-Engineer and Serge’s extensive experience in IT and Marketing, we have created a brand that is as precise in its formulation as it is passionate in its delivery.

Bonded by Chocolate

One of Els and Serge’s earliest dates was at Chocolate Nation, the world’s largest Belgian chocolate museum in Antwerp.

As they wandered through exhibits of Belgian cocoa history and sampled luscious pralines, they discovered something special: a shared love for Belgian chocolate. They playfully debated flavors and reminisced about childhood treats, realizing that this sweet passion was another thing they had in common.

In that moment, amid the rich aroma of cacao, a dream began to take shape. Els mentioned an idea she had nurtured for years – a dream of bringing the taste of authentic Belgian chocolate to the United States, where she had lived for over 30 years.

Together, right there in the chocolate museum, they started imagining what it would be like to create something of their own.

Belgian Roots, American Dream

Els had built a life in America for decades and held both Belgian and American nationalities. With a background as a Bio-Engineer in Food and years of experience leading R&D teams in the food industry, she had deep expertise in creating quality products.

Serge, born and raised in Belgium, was an entrepreneur at heart – he had run his own marketing company and worked in IT, all while cultivating a love of fine foods (especially chocolate!).

The more they talked, the more it became clear: their skills and experiences were the perfect ingredients for a transatlantic venture. What started as Els’s personal dream soon became a shared vision.


Inspired by their time at the chocolate museum and countless late-night conversations, Els and Serge decided to turn their love and passion into something real. In a leap of faith, Serge chose to leave everything behind in Belgium and move to the United States to build this dream together with Els.

They founded The Belgian BonBon – a company born from Belgian roots and an American dream. Their mission was clear: combine Belgium’s legendary chocolate craftsmanship with America’s spirit of innovation to create chocolates unlike any other. It wasn’t just about making candy; it was about sharing a piece of Belgium with the American world, crafted with love by two people whose lives bridged both cultures.

Passion in Every BonBon

From the start, Els and Serge were committed to 100% authentic Belgian chocolate. After tasting many local chocolates in the U.S. and finding most of them lacking the rich quality they adored, they knew their creations had to stand apart.

Every piece would be made with premium Belgian cocoa, following the time-honored techniques that make Belgian chocolates world-famous for their luxurious taste and texture. To ensure this authenticity, Serge even trained with master chocolatiers in Belgium, honing the art of tempering, molding, and crafting delicate pralines.

Each recipe was developed with an emphasis on quality, flavor, and a touch of luxury – you can truly feel the passion in every bonbon they create.


They chose the name “The Belgian BonBon” because it’s fun and memorable – a little alliteration that nods to Belgium’s confectionery heritage. (In fact, in Europe a “bonbon” often refers to a filled chocolate praline.

In our case, our chocolates are actually small square tablets rather than traditional filled candies – but each one is packed with so much flavor and love that bonbon felt like the perfect name!) Every chocolate square we produce is a miniature labor of love, meant to bring a smile of delight with each bite.

Els and Serge also wanted to add an extra twist to their chocolates – something that reflected their personality and care for others’ well-being. This led to the creation of an adaptogen-infused chocolate line. Their signature first edition, lovingly named “Passion,” blends silky Belgian chocolate with adaptogenic mushrooms and herbs. These special ingredients (like natural botanical extracts and mushroom powders) are known to help with balance and wellness. Passion is more than just a flavor – it’s a reflection of their love story and values. By infusing chocolate with adaptogens, Els and Serge found a unique way to share not only the delicious taste of Belgian chocolate, but also a sense of nourishment and positivity. It’s their way of putting a little extra love and care into each bite, so when you taste Passion, you feel uplifted – as if the love they poured into their dream is passed on to you.

Today, The Belgian BonBon is proud to be a true blend of two worlds: Belgian passion, American made. All our chocolates are handcrafted in the USA, but they carry the soul and tradition of Belgium in every piece.

We source our chocolate from Belgium to guarantee that authentic quality, and then we lovingly create and package each bonbon right here in America. It’s the best of both worlds – the heritage of Belgian chocolate combined with the creativity and local craftsmanship of an American small business.
